Below is our recommended packing list for a successful multi-day river trip adventure.
River Clothing
These are the items you will want easy access to during the day while out on the water.
- Swim Suits
- Quick dry shorts, skorts, or similar
- Sun shirts or sun hoodies – light-colored, long-sleeve cotton/synthetic
- River sandals – Teva, Chaco, Keen, etc
- Sun hat or visor
- Sunglasses/chums – always great to pack a spare!
- Rain Jacket/Pants – essential to pack for cooler day rain and splashes
- Neoprene river socks – highly recommended if your toes get especially cold
Camp Clothing
Once you have made it to camp for the night, having warm and comfortable layers makes all the difference.
- 2 pair shorts
- 2 pair pants
- 3–4 shirts
- 1 fleece or similar jacket
- Warm sweatshirt
- Non-cotton, lightweight long underwear, top and bottom
- Sleeping clothes

- 3 pair socks

- Gloves and beanies – nights can get pretty chilly in June and September

- Water bottle with a tight sealing lid (Nalgene, etc)
- Travel mug
- Sunblock
- Small bug repellent
- Synthetic towel and washcloth (faster drying than cotton)
- Flashlight or headlamp
- Toiletry items and medication
Optional Items
These extra items can help make your trip even more comfortable and enjoyable.
- Biodegradable soap (Dr. Bronner’s, Campsuds)
- Lotion
- Face wash towelettes
- Medication, bandaids, Tylenol, etc
- Small backpack
- Favorite sipping beverage
- Musical instrument
- Earphones for listening to music
- 1–2 small carabiners for clipping water bottle and day bag
- Plastic bag for wet clothing
- Chapstick
- Sarong for whatever reasons you decide
- A few clothespins to hang wet clothing
- Camera – waterproof with extra batteries and memory card
- Cash or Check to tip guides. Tips are appropriate, appreciated, and at your discretion. A general guideline is similar to the service industry: 10–20% of your trip cost
